The Port of Baku participated in the “Leadership Excellence in Advancing Women’s Employment and Career Growth in Azerbaijan,” hosted by the World Bank at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. As part of the World Bank’s “Strengthening Women’s Human Capital for Better Labor Market Outcomes” project under the Azerbaijan Rapid Technical Assistance Facility (AZTAF), the Port of Baku aims to enhance gender management in the transportation sector.
The event highlighted project outcomes and future plans, with the Port showcasing its progress in increasing female workforce representation from 5% to 11% in two years, with a target of 20% by 2030. This effort aligns with the global benchmark for women’s representation in the port industry, which stands at 18%, according to United Nations and World Bank reports, as well as with UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.
The Port also shared achievements from the implemented Green Port, and other initiatives, as well as emphasized learnings from exchange visits to the Port of Venice and other European transportation organizations, fostering best practices in empowering women within the sector.
