Phase 2 construction of the Baku Port will mainly focus on container cargo, Taleh Ziyadov, said Director General of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC, According to Report.
“The phase 1 with a transshipment capacity of 15 million tons has been completed at the port. The phase 2 will allow us to handle up to 25 million tons of cargo from the subsequent port. The main part of this will be containers,” Ziyadov said.
“The main focus of the second phase is specifically container cargo. Most of the cargo going from China to Europe and from Central Asia to Türkiye will be transported by containers. In this context, the construction of a new Intermodal Cargo Terminal in the port area is of great importance because cargo going from both China and Kazakhstan towards Europe will pass through our port and will be delivered to their destination by rail and road transport at the new terminal,” the director general noted.
At the same time, the terminal will also have storage facilities for cargo in warehouses, according to him. “Kazakhstan’s export potential alone through our route is close to 4 million tons. Additionally, cargo going from China to Europe will increase from initially 100,000 containers to up to 300,000 containers,” Ziyadov added.
