Turkmenistan Calls for Stronger Cooperation on Aral and Caspian Seas

At the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) in Avaza, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov urged increased global cooperation on Turkmenistan’s initiatives—the Caspian Environmental Platform and a UN program for the Aral Sea, reports Business Turkmenistan.

He highlighted the global significance of the Caspian Sea’s environmental challenges, including shrinking water levels, and stressed the importance of advancing the Caspian Environmental Initiative introduced at the 78th UN General Assembly.

Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to preserving the Aral Sea and called for continued development of a dedicated UN program for the Aral basin. He also emphasized the importance of fair and sustainable water resource management and equal water access as a fundamental right.

The President noted that 2025, declared the International Year of Peace and Trust on Turkmenistan’s proposal, marks the 30th anniversary of the country’s neutrality, symbolizing its dedication to UN cooperation and sustainable development.

The LLDC3 conference gathered global leaders to address challenges faced by landlocked developing countries, positioning Turkmenistan as a key regional and international partner.
