By 2030, the Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port plans to launch ferry services with Turkmenistan, Iran, and Kazakhstan, significantly enhancing the transport potential of the Caspian region. This was reported on Saturday by Turkmenistan’s official media.

As part of preparations for the new rail and road routes, the port is undergoing large-scale infrastructure modernization. The project is expected to increase the port’s annual cargo turnover by 2 million tonnes, improving the efficiency of logistics operations.

To expedite cargo handling, a dedicated area capable of simultaneously accommodating up to 200 containers will be constructed on the quay. This initiative will streamline loading and unloading processes and boost the port’s attractiveness to international partners.

The Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port is Russia’s only non-freezing deep-water port on the Caspian Sea. It serves as a vital strategic link in the transportation system of southern Russia, connecting it with the countries of Central Asia, Iran, the South Caucasus, and other regional states.
