Closure of Strait of Hormuz would cause major problems, said Turkish President Erdogan, expressing hope that Iran would not take such a step, Report informs via Anadolu.

“The closure of the Strait of Hormuz would cause major problems. We believe Iran would not take such a step,” the Turkish president told journalists aboard his return flight from the NATO summit in the Netherlands.

He stressed that the recent surge reminded us once again how important energy supply security is:

“As Türkiye, we are working intensively to increase our energy sources. From oil in the Gulf to natural gas in the Black Sea, we are producing at many points and are trying to increase this. On the other hand, we are continuing our oil and natural gas exploration activities seriously and resolutely. To become completely independent in energy, we are striving to reduce our imports and increase our production.”

The Turkish president also stated that his ultimate goal is to turn the country into a technology exporter:

“Two days ago, a rumor spread that Iran had cut off natural gas. I immediately discussed this issue with my energy minister, who contacted his colleague. In fact, there is no such situation. We also spoke with Iranian President Pezeshkian. We absolutely do not foresee a situation where our natural gas will be cut off. Our natural gas is currently coming from Iran. We do not have any difficulties.”
