The first freight train has departed from the Chinese province of Zhejiang to Azerbaijan via Turkmenistan within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (TITR, Middle Corridor), Report informs referring to the Agency of Transport and Communications of Turkmenistan.
“The first freight train departed from the city of Jinhua to the port of Turkmenbashi, which marked the official opening of the new TITR with a starting point in one of the most economically developed regions of China. The train, consisting of 100 standard containers, is heading to the port of Turkmenbashi, from where the cargo will be transported across the Caspian Sea to the port of Baku,” the message says.
On the route, the train will cross the Chinese-Kazakh border through the Khorgos checkpoint, after which it will proceed through Almaty, Tashkent and Ashgabat.
According to the Chinese side, the launch of the new route will reduce the load on the traditional Aktau-Baku logistics line, and will also speed up the supply of Chinese products to the markets of Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
“The new route has already become the 26th international logistics route created by Zhejiang Province within the freight rail transportation along the China-Europe route,” the statement said.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Türkiye and European countries.
