Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has signed eight documents aimed at strengthening energy partnership with China during the first regional energy forum “Power Central Asia + China,” held ahead of the “Central Asia – China” summit.
Report informs, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, that a framework agreement on strategic cooperation was signed with POWERCHINA in the areas of localization, establishment of a Research and Development (R&D) center, and formation of a decarbonization fund. With China Southern Power Grid, a memorandum was concluded providing for the development of joint projects in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, digital energy, and pumped storage power plants. Additionally, a memorandum was signed with Huawei Kazakhstan on digital transformation of the energy sector and ensuring cybersecurity.
Furthermore, a purchase and sale agreement was signed for the Sauran solar power plant project with the participation of China Energy Overseas Investment. The project involves energy supplies from a solar station equipped with storage facilities in the Turkestan region.
QazaqGaz and China Construction Bank agreed on financing investment projects under an agreement aimed at supporting key energy initiatives. An agreement was reached with CNCECI on the development of a feasibility study for a coal chemical plant with a production capacity of up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas. A technology partnership agreement has been signed with Sinopec for the production of deep processing products.
An agreement was also concluded with China Energy International and Shanghai Jiao Tong University on cooperation in hydrogen technologies and research and development.
“The signed documents confirm the growing importance of energy cooperation between Central Asian countries and China and create a solid foundation for the implementation of large-scale joint projects,” the ministry emphasizes.
