Cooperation opportunities between the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the ports of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shantou, and Jiangjiang located in China’s Guangdong province have been discussed, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan Railways (ADY).

According to the ADY, the discussions took place during a meeting between ADY’s Deputy Chairman Arif Aghayev and a delegation led by Lin Keqin, Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

The meeting discussed the strategic role of the Middle Corridor, which is a key part of the East-West transport corridor, the efficient and safe transportation of goods along this route, and issues of mutual interest in the field of cargo transportation.

The work done by ADY for the development of international corridors, including the Middle Corridor, which provides an efficient and reliable transport connection between China and Europe, and the role of Baku Port in international cargo transportation were brought to the attention of the guests.

It was highlighted that Baku Port, one of the main segments of the Middle Corridor, opens up wide opportunities for East-West-East cargo transportation with an annual throughput capacity of 15 million tons, thanks to its modern technological capabilities and appropriate infrastructure for rapid cargo operations.

The Chinese delegation became familiar with Baku Port’s growing logistical potential in the region and its favorable opportunities for multimodal transportation.

Currently, regular container block trains are being sent from China’s Xi’an port via the Middle Corridor.
