The Middle Corridor makes an important contribution to the development of China’s foreign trade, providing the country with access to alternative markets, Faig Agabalayev, a teacher at Sichuan University (China), told Report.
According to him, the importance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) for China lies not only in the intensification of trade and transport relations but also in the development of the landlocked regions of the country:
“Almost all coastal regions of China have strong economic performance, while landlocked regions have weak economic performance. However, China was able to achieve economic growth within a few years. For example, the provinces of Gansu, Xinjiang, and Sichuan have shown impressive economic growth in the past 10 years thanks to the use of these trade routes.”
Agabalayev also emphasized that the visits of the heads of state of the Central Asian countries to China and their interest in joint work on the Middle Corridor indicate that this route will be developed more intensively: “China and regional countries are interested in increasing the commercial efficiency of this project.”
