All types of cargo are operatively transported in the Port of Baku, located 70km south of the Capital, in Alat settlement, in the center of transport junctions. In general, built on an area of 400 hectares, 113 area of hectares are being actively used. At present, there are 13 terminals in the Port of Baku, two of which are the ferry terminals with a carrying capacity of 6.2 million tons, the other two are the Ro-Ro bridges with a carrying capacity of 1.8 million tons and the other seven are the General Freight bridges with a carrying capacity of 7 million tons.
The other two are service bridges. From 2019, the first stage of construction of the Port of Baku has been completed and currently the Port of Baku has a carrying capacity of 15 million tons, the container capacity is up to 100,000 TEU. The first phase of the construction of the port complex is a ferry terminal, general cargo bridge, Ro-Ro bridge, service bridge, railway lines, office building, customs point, open storage area, warehouses, container yard, rail and road approaches to bridges, Ro-Ro ramps, covered the construction of a heavy cargo area and a truck parking area.
With the completion of the second phase of the construction of the port complex, the total carrying capacity of the Port of Baku is expected to increase to 25 million tons, and the container handling capacity to 500,000 TEU.
