The free trade zone in the Alat township will allow increasing the volume of transit freight traffic up to 26 million tons per year, said Adil Al Zarooni, representative of the Dubai Port World company (DP World, one of the world’s major port operators), in Baku on May 23.
DP World is providing consulting services for creation of the free trade zone.
According to Al Zarooni, Azerbaijan needs to take a number of steps to increase the freight traffic.
First of all, this is related to the preparation of single tariffs for transportation of goods, as well as the improvement and acceleration of customs procedures and inspections, he added.
