In 2019, the Caspian ports of Makhachkala (Dagestan, Russia) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) will be connected through a ferry service, Russian media reported with reference to the statement of the Russian trade representative in Turkmenistan Alexander Elizarov.

“We plan to open a ferry service in the second half of 2019,” he said.

According to Elizarov, the study and analysis of cargo flows show good prospects and potential for the development of international transport corridors “North-South” and “West-East”.

“The only Russian port that operates year-round is the Makhachkala Sea Trade Port. According to specialists, the potential volume of cargo flows is estimated at more than 30 million tons per year,” he said.

A representative delegation of Turkmenistan visited JSC Makhachkala Sea Trade Port in June, where it familiarized itself with its capabilities for handling various types of cargo and organizing ferry communication with the Turkmenbashi port, as well as the port’s fish terminal.
