The Board of Directors of Gazprom will vote on October 2 on whether to approve the opening of a company representative office in Azerbaijan.

A quarterly report on the Russian gas giant’s purchasing activities will also be presented to the board, Interfax reported.

Gazprom supplied gas to Azerbaijan from 2000 to 2006, but then shipments stopped due to the launch of the Shahdeniz field.

In 2010, Azerbaijan began shipping gas to Russia, which used this gas to supply Dagestan. Azerbaijan’s gas shipments to Russia were interrupted repeatedly by repairs in 2013 and 2014 and no shipments were made in 2015. Attempts were made in 2015 to arrange for supplies of Russian gas for the AzMeCo methane plant.

Negotiations on shipments of Russian gas to the country are also being held with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
